Does happiness have a price?

Let’s talk again about the “pursuit of happiness“. I would like to thank Karla for sharing her thoughts on the previous two posts. Since I read her comments, I can’t stop thinking about that man killed on the Black Friday event. He was probably an old man as the people working at the front doors in Wall Mart are all elderly people staying all day long there, greeting the customers. I can’t believe we can be such animals - without considering the human’s life for the sake of saving a few dollars. Is this how much our life costs? Honestly that’s not human at all. When exactly people became so cruel and brutal, thinking only about money? I guess this time we should talk about money and happiness and how they cooperate with each other…

Money is equal to happiness for just a few people according to the researches. Or just a few admit it? Recently I heard a story about a rich man, owner of a big company, who has cancer, found at the last stage, five years ago. Doctors and friends are shocked how is he still alive? Well, the answer is: “because he has enough money to afford to live“. Five years of life cost this men almost a million dollars. How many of us can afford this? If he didn’t have the money, how was he going to see his children growing, how was he going to see his company becoming significant on the market, how was he going to enjoy being with his family? He was not going to…neither of those… Sadly, but true. Health is the most important thing among all the values – yes it is, but sometimes only money can assure someone is healthy enough to see the sun next morning and still… he may not be happy…

So, it is true – money can buy happiness for some of us…sometimes, however we must not take a person’s life, because of the money. That’s wrong….totally wrong.

We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.
